TATRA BANKA, A.S.

First Green Bond on the Slovak Market

Last year, Tatra banka issued the first green bond on the Slovak market in the amount of 300 mil. EUR and thus confirmed its position as an innovative leader not only in the field of products but also sustainability overall. The use of proceeds was intended to finance the green projects of the bank’s clients. Tatra banka now introduced its “Allocation and Impact report” to disclose the use of these proceeds and the impact of the funded projects on the environment.

Almost 90% of the proceeds were used to finance the "green buildings" category, represented mainly by the residential properties with the highest energy classes. A significant percentage of the allocation was also from the "energy" category, where the bank financed renewable energy projects, primarily the solar energy projects.

Here are some interesting facts from the "Allocation and Impact report":

  • The funded projects’ CO2e savings represent 35,702.50 tons per year, which correspond to the annual electricity consumption of 7,000 homes or 143 million kilometers driven by the average petrol-powered passenger car
  • Although most of the portfolio consists of real estate, up to 55% of savings are generated by the renewable energy projects, which account for less than 6.5% of the portfolio.

Currently, the report is published on the bank's website not only for investors, but also for all those who are interested in the topic of sustainability:
