An example of cooperation in the sense of education and the promotion of the future: the new educational institution for elementary education (BAfEP) in Vienna Floridsdorf
Find out how a forward-looking project to promote education in Vienna is being realised through the collaboration of the HABAU GROUP, Apleona Austria and RBI Leasing.
Shaping education: a project for future generations
This year saw the start of construction of the new educational institution for elementary education (BAfEP) on Schloßhofer Straße / Freytaggasse. The new BAfEP building is being realised by Apleona Austria GmbH, RBI Leasing GmbH and HABAU Hoch- und Tiefbaugesellschaft m.b.H. on behalf of the City of Vienna. The HABAU GROUP is responsible for the construction work, while Apleona is taking care of the technical building equipment and interior fittings. Raiffeisen-Leasing and Raiffeisen Bank International are providing the financing. The project is considered a prime example of a successful public-private partnership. The school is scheduled to open in September 2026, with overall completion in summer 2027. This will create a modern and sustainable learning environment for the future.
‘The new BAfEP21 will be a flagship of Viennese education and will bring the important profession of elementary education into the focus of society,’ says Christoph Wiederkehr, Vice-Mayor of the City of Vienna and City Councillor for Education. ’One of the most important training programmes will be provided in a modern environment, and I wish everyone involved every success in the implementation phase.’
Modern learning environments with plenty of open space
The existing Educational Institute for Elementary Education in Floridsdorf, built in 1978, will remain in operation for the most part during the construction project. The new building, with four staggered upper floors, will be built on the open space of the existing school on Schloßhofer Straße. There are plans for 36 classes and a practice kindergarten with ten groups, as well as a festival hall for 250 people. The new building will have numerous open spaces that will further promote the connection between theory and practice. Students will have the opportunity to apply the knowledge they have acquired in the practical kindergarten. Due to its harmonious integration into the intersection, the future facility will provide a space that is protected from noise and traffic.
